16 trapped in Gansu coal mine accident

BEIJING - Sixteen miners were trapped in a coal mine accident early Tuesday morning in Northwest China's Gansu province, the latest local sources said.

The accident occurred when a steel rope carrying an elevator broke in the mine in the city of Baiyin.

Thirty-two miners were in the elevator when the accdident happened. Now 16 have been lifted out of the mine.
