BEIJING - The sixth plenary session of the 14th Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, one of China's eight non-Communist parties, opened in Beijing on Sunday.
Sang Guowei, chairman of the party's central committee, briefly reviewed the party's achievements over the last five years.
He said the party has always strived to play a role in the country's multi-party cooperation mechanism under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Sang, who is also vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said members of the party should cherish ethnic unity and social stability and safeguard political relations among China's parties.
He urged the members to greet the upcoming 18th CPC National Congress, scheduled for Nov 8, with new achievements.
Minister of Health Chen Zhu was co-opted as additional vice-chair to the party's central committee at the session.
Sang said the party should spare no efforts to prepare for its 15th national congress, which is scheduled for December.
