The man who injured 23 primary school students with a knife on Friday was influenced by rumors about the end of the world, local media reported.
Min Yongjun, 36, from Wenshu township in Henan province's Guangshan county, attacked 23 primary school students with a knife on Friday morning.
The police believes that Min attacked the children after hearing rumors about the end of the world, said a report on the website of the Dahe Daily.
The report added that the man is believed to suffer from epilepsy.
The police detained the suspect on Friday with the help of village officials. On Sunday, the man was charged of endangering public security, according to the county government's publicity department.
Some injured students received treatment in the county's hospitals, and some seriously injured students were sent to hospitals in Xinyang, Henan province, and Wuhan, Hubei province.
On Friday, the county government had said that the suspect's name was Min Yingjun and that there were 22 students injured, but on Monday, the county government said that his name was Min Yongjun and there were 23 students injured.
The county government has started to check the security conditions of all the local schools to avoid similar cases, the report added.
