A man accused in the slaying of a woman in Zhejiang province was caught in Hangzhou on April 23, police said.
Police in the Yuhang district of Hangzhou said on their micro blog that the man, named He, is in custody. He, 24, had confessed to killing his 20-year-old girlfriend, named Cheng.
Clothes and identification of the victim were found in He’s apartment.
On March 15, a woman was found dead in Yuhang district with three playing cards next to the body. Police believe she was murdered. The victim’s identity was unknown until He was apprehended.
After police posted details of the case online to help identify the victim, the case triggered public attention nationwide, focusing on the meaning of the three cards. Officers in charge of the case have received more than 2,000 items of information a day, according to Hangzhou’s Youth Times newspaper.
However, police have since ruled out the possibility that the playing cards have any meaning to the case.
