Official sacked for incompetence

Yang Chengyi, deputy mayor of Qingren, a town in Sichuan province's Lushan county, was dismissed on Wednesday for ineffectiveness and lack of a sense of responsibility in earthquake relief work, Xinhua News Agency reported. Meanwhile, the Sichuan provincial discipline inspection authority has increased its supervision of the use of relief funds and distribution of aid resources.

Jiangsu

Eight killed on expressway

Eight people were killed after a minibus ran into the back of a truck on an expressway in Jiangsu province on Wednesday. Authorities in Yancheng city said the accident happened at around 7 am when the bus driver failed to avoid the truck, which had a flat tire. Eight people on the bus died at the scene, according to an initial investigation.

Shandong

Ancient mirror workshop found

A 2,000-year-old bronze mirror workshop has been excavated in Shandong province, the first such discovery in China, archaeologists said on Wednesday. More than 100 stone molds, as well as foundry pits, wells and blast pipes, have been unearthed in a village near Zibo city, said Bai Yunxiang, deputy director of the archeological institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Beijing

Station hands in copyright report

The State radio station on Wednesday delivered to the Music Copyright Society of China a report detailing its use of music products in 2012. At a handover ceremony in Beijing, Wang Qiu, head of China National Radio, passed the report to the society's vice-chairman, Qu Jingming. The report records the precise use of music in CNR's more than 7,000 hours of programs last year, said Wang.

Gansu

Two miners die after explosion

Two miners were killed by a blast at a coal mine on Tuesday evening in Gansu province. The accident happened at about 7 pm at the Haishiwan coal mine owned by Yaojie Coal Electricity Group. One worker died at the scene and another on Wednesday morning in hospital.
