BEIJING - Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Monday met with delegates of the Hong Kong-based Chinese General Chamber of Commerce during their visit to Beijing, asking them to help promote the cause of "one country, two systems".
During their meeting, Yu called for the chamber of commerce to actively support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government and the chief executive in exercising government power as mandated by law to safeguard the rule of law in Hong Kong.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, also asked the organization to be forward-thinking and make contributions to Hong Kong's economic development.
Moreover, the organization should bolster solidarity of patriotic forces in Hong Kong and expand their influences, Yu said.
Yu called for the people in Hong Kong to actively participate in the SAR's economic, social and political affairs and to jointly safeguard Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability.
