A senior legislator from the southern province of Guangdong has been placed under investigation for serious violations of Party discipline.

According to a statement from the Guangdong Provincial Party Commission of Discipline Inspection, Chen Huayi, deputy secretary-general of Guangdong's legislative body, has been suspended from his duties pending an investigation.

But the statement, which was published on the official website of the Party's top anti-graft body on Wednesday, did not reveal details about Chen's case.

Chen was born in Guangdong's Chaoshan area in 1954 and graduated from Guangzhou-based prestigious Sun Yatsen University.

He is the second secretary-general from Guangdong's legislative body to be suspended for serious violations of Party discipline. Li Zhujiang, former deputy secretary-general of Guangdong’s top legislative body, was relieved of his post on April 26.

Li, 54, a native of Xingning in eastern Guangdong, was director-general of Guangdong Provincial Administration of Ocean and Fisheries before he took office as deputy secretary-general of the province's legislative body in 2009.
