He admitted pouring acid an 11-year-old fourth-grader while the boy was on his way to school Thursday morning.
The child's face was seriously burned and he has been hospitalized. He is being treated in the intensive care unit of the Nanjing Children's Hospital.
An initial investigation indicated that Cai sought revenge against the boy's divorced mother, who he had dated previously.
A further investigation is under way.
