Police in Nanning, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, have arrested 33 people for causing disturbances and intentional injuries after a traffic accident on Thursday night.
One of the suspects, surnamed Chen, rear-ended a taxi with an unlicensed Toyota car and beat the driver during a dispute. Though police settled the dispute, the taxi driver demanded medical compensation and called fellow drivers, who came to the scene.
After Chen agreed to pay the driver compensation, some onlookers searched his car and found military car plates in the trunk. The onlookers then burned Chen’s car and turned over three police vehicles. More police were called to the scene, and 56 people were arrested.
Police also learned that the military car plates were fake.
Further investigation is under way.
