SHAHGHAI -- An explosion occurred in a chemical plant on Monday afternoon in Shanghai, casualties unknown, said rescuers.

At about 2:15 pm Monday, the explosion happened at a chemical plant at an industrial zone in the Jinshan district of Shanghai, according to rescuers.

Rescue efforts are still under way.
