Jilin breaks world record in river lamp festival

A total of 14,630 lamps were lit and floated on the Songhuajiang River in the city of Jilin, Jilin province, on Sunday, setting a new Guinness Word Record.
Guinness World Record verifier Wu Xiaohong presented a certificate acknowledging the record to Wang Yongji, deputy director of the Jilin city bureau of culture, on Sunday night.
The lamps were lit and placed on the river by 300 local residents within 10 minutes during the 3rd River Lamp Festival of Jilin.
The former record was 10,121 lamps, which was set by residents in the city last year.
The event attracted many tourists and photographers.
