Demolition of an illegal rooftop addition on a 26-story apartment in Beijing began on Thursday.
At 8 am, construction workers began demolishing the addition, which is adorned with trees and bushes and covers more than 800 square meters. It sits atop an apartment building in Haidian district.
Zhang Biqing is the owner of the illegal addition and many of his neighbors have complained about his lavish rooftop add-on since 2007 when construction began. They later complained about Zhang's penchant for playing loud music and singing late at night.
Government had sent construction experts to guide and supervise the demolition to ensure that the building was not affected by the demolition.
