The news that former Party chief of Chongqing Bo Xilai will face an open trial at the Jinan Intermediate People's Court in East China's Shandong province today dominates the discussions online.

Chengguan tool-up

Almost 100 chengguan, urban management officers, in Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong, showed off their new uniforms complete with stab-proof vest and helmets on Tuesday, China News Service reported. One officer said it's necessary to wear the outfit so they can secure their personal safety in possible confrontations with illegal street vendors.

Kiss diploma

News that a teacher asked for a kiss from students before they could get their diploma turned out to be misinterpretation, according to a statement from the local government which said some students kissed the respected teacher out of gratitude, but they accepted the farewell was inappropriate.

7,300 die a day

More than 7,300 people die from cancer every day in China, Beijing Morning Post reported on Thursday. More than 3 million people are diagnosed with cancer and more than 2.7 million people die from cancer every year, the report said.
