A professional women's social network, inspired by a book by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook chief operating officer, launched its Beijing branch on Sunday.
Around 60 women, from various walks of life, attended the event. Lean In, a non-profit organization named after the book title, was co-founded by Sandberg and Rachel Thomas in March.
It aims to create a global community that encourages women to be active and ambitious and to "lean in" and contribute more during the decision-making process.
According to a survey conducted online by Lean In, women in Beijing said their priorities were to develop contacts outside their immediate work circle and to have access to a career mentor.
Lean In.org puts on seminars, lectures, videos and shares experiences online.
