Police have detained an ambulance driver in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, on Monday after police said the ambulance ran over and killed a 5-year-old boy.
The incident occurred at noon on August 25 when an ambulance left to pick up a patient. As the driver, named Zhang, drove the ambulance out of the hospital, the boy was crushed.
The boy was pronounced dead soon after he was hospitalized.
Since the incident took place in a closed community and not an open road, the driver was arrested on a charge of causing death by negligence, rather than on a traffic offense.
