An elderly woman ran over and killed her 2-year-old grandson in a tragic accident while she was reversing her car, West China City Daily reported Tuesday.
The accident happened at around 11:00 am on Monday in a community in Anjing town, Chengdu city in Sichuan province when the boy in the front seat fell from the moving car. The woman didn't notice the boy had fallen out of the car, and continued reversing.
A witness said the car door seemed not locked.
A doctor from Anjing Town Health Center, where the boy died after attempts to resuscitate him failed, said the boy showed no vital signs on arrival. The emergency records show he died from "severe traumatic brain injury".
Local police warned that according to China's road safety laws, children under 12 years old are not allowed to sit in the front seat, and protection measures are needed if they sit in the backseats.
