More than 100 representatives and experts attending the Fifth Euro-Asia Economic Forum in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, on Sept 26 addressed issues related to new energy and the green economy, and discussed sustainable urban development.

On the Science and Technology Sub-forum of the forum, held that afternoon, 29 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including Jiang Zhenghua, Wu Jinglian and Cheng Siwei, discussed climate, the environment, sustainable development and other technologies with local enterprises.

Some of the academicians established long-term co-operative arrangements with local enterprises during the forum, in order to increase technological innovation of the enterprises and to drive technological economic development in Shaanxi province, said Zhang Jing'an, secretary-general of the sub-forum.

"The energy revolution led by new energy will be the fourth industrial revolution," said Cheng Siwei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a well-known economist and management scientist, in his keynote speech on the sub-forum.

Chang said that China made a great effort to develop new energy and is first or second in the world in investment to develop new energy, which shows that the Chinese government pays a great deal of attention to the problem of global warming.

The sub-forum was sponsored by the Xi'an High-tech Development Zone, which has a number of high-tech enterprises and years of experience in innovation-driven eco-city construction.
