GUANGZHOU - Thirty people were killed and one is missing after Usagi, the most powerful typhoon this year made landfall in south China's Guangdong Province Sunday evening, authorities said.

By Thursday, power and water supply have resumed in most affected areas, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said.

More than 9.71 million residents in the province were affected and 630,000 had to be evacuated, mainly in Shanwei and Jieyang cities.

Nearly 130,000 hectares of crops were affected by Usagi, the provincial agricultural bureau said, adding efforts are underway to help farmers recover from the disaster.
