A case of H7N9 bird flu has been confirmed in Dongguan, Guangdong province, the provincial health and family planning commission announced on Nov 5.
The patient, a 3-year-old boy from Sichuan province and living in the town of Changping, had no fever and showed mild symptoms.
He was receiving free treatment at Dongguan People's Hospital.
The Dongguan Center for Disease Control and Prevention put seven people who had close contact with the boy under medical observation.
Three of them showed flu symptoms but tested negative for the virus.
