Heilongjiang province's wildlife watchdog announced on Dec 18 that it has captured high-definition video of a Siberian tiger, cri.cn reported.
While the video is only several seconds long, it clearly shows a male tiger walking by the camera.
Although many videos show Siberian tigers, this is the first nationwide HD video.
The video was taken on Sept 22 in Suiyang township of Mudanjiang city, in the northern part of the province.
A provincial natural protection zone for Siberian tigers was set up in Suiyang in 2011.
Zhang Shusen, an official with the provincial forestry administration, said that the growing frequency of tiger activities on video shows that the protection program is working.
The wild Siberian tiger is an endangered species with fewer than 500 worldwide. Most of them live in the border area of Russia and China.
