Editor's note: A group of homeless people living under the city in utility compartments drew many readers'attention in the past year. Their stories set off a chain reaction of events that helped some of them end their underground life. Wang Xiuqing landed a stable job in Beijing, allowing him to celebrate this year's Spring Festival.

Bearing gifts for Spring Festival, Wang Xiuqing returns home to Yaoling village, Shao Ying county in Beijing's Huairou district on Jan 27. He had been living in an underground utility compartment for about 10 years before his living conditions became a news story that started a chain reaction. Now he has a job at Beijing City University, with a salary of 3,000 to 4,000 yuan, along with free room and board.[Photo/icpress.cn]
