Three years ago, Tang Guanhua and his wife Xing Zhen put the finishing touches on their home deep in the mountains, where they focus on self-reliance and creating an idyllic lifestyle.
Tang and Xing both left high-paying jobs to pursue a rural lifestyle, and their home, which they named "Self-sufficiency Lab", is actually a renovated brick house in a remote mountainous village in Qingdao, Shandong province.
The couple grow their own vegetables and sew their own clothes, and Tang also makes various items to address specific issues - such as electric generators, water purifiers and drum-type washing machines.
They also sell handmade goods to earn their living.
