GUIYANG - Thirteen workers were successfully rescued on Saturday about 140 hours after being trapped in a collapsed tunnel in Southwest China, said rescuers.

The workers were rescued at 2:10 pm Saturday and sent to a hospital. Medical workers said they were in good condition after a preliminary checkup at the scene.

The tunnel under construction on a highway in Shiqian county, Guizhou province collapsed at around 5:50 pm Sunday.

Rescuers dug through a 45-meter-long channel early Monday for ventilation and delivery of food and water. Rescuers were able to confirm that all the workers were fine.

Food delivered through the channel was selected by health specialists and included porridge, eggs, milk and bananas.

Rescuers excavated debris with extra care to avoid secondary collapses, as the geological structure is prone to landslides and cave-ins.
