BEIJING - Beijing police have captured a fraud suspect who fled the country 15 years ago.
In 1998, the suspect surnamed Zheng ordered 4.36 million yuan (about 710,000 US dollars) of clothes from a company in Shanghai and then sold them, embezzling more than 4 million yuan from the profits of the sale. He then fled to Canada and changed his name, according to police.
In 2000, police began to hunt the man and accumulate details of his activities in Canada. At 9 pm Tuesday, police arrested Zheng at Beijing Capital International Airport as he arrived from Canada for a family visit.
Further investigation is underway.
In July, authorities launched a campaign dubbed Fox Hunt 2014 to track down corruption and economic crimes suspects abroad.
