UNITED NATIONS -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov here on Friday to discuss the development of closer ties between their two countries and major international issues.
Wang recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Dushanbe not long ago and jointly took part in the first China-Russia-Mongolia trilateral summit as well as the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which all yielded important results.
Both countries should fully implement the consensus reached by the leaders, Wang said during talks with Lavrov on the sidelines of the annual high-level debate of the U.N. General Assembly.
China welcomes Putin's forthcoming attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled for mid-November in Beijing, he said.
China is ready to continue to keep strategic cooperation with Russia within the framework of the United Nations, the SCO, BRICS, Russia-China-India and other multilateral mechanisms and push forward a proper settlement of current international and regional hotspot issues such as Iraq, Iran's nuclear issue and the Ukraine crisis, Wang said.
Lavrov said Russia is quite satisfied with the results of the meetings between President Putin and President Xi since the beginning of this year.
Russia is ready to make joint efforts with China to practically put into action the consensus reached by the two heads of state, promote pragmatic cooperation in economy and trade, energy and deepen common interests, he said.
Russia is also willing to promote its coordination and cooperation with China on world affairs, in order for the two countries to play an important role in safeguarding world peace and stability, he added.
