Chinese and Icelandic people enjoy the benefits of a peaceful international environment and cherish the hard-won peace, Zhang Weidong, Ambassador of China to Iceland said.
Zhang gave a keynote speech at a seminar on Friday in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War.
The victory of the World Anti-fascist War has had significant and profound influence over the advance of human civilization, he said, adding that China was the oriental main battle field of the World Anti-fascist War and China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression made great contributions for the final victory of the war.
Based on UN and principles of UN Charter, the post-war international order serves as the cornerstone of world peace and stability, Zhang stressed.
He pointed out that a small number of Japanese right-wing forces distort the history and recklessly challenge peaceful order established after World War II.
"They not only seriously damage Japan’s relations with China and other victim countries, but also pose a threat to regional and world peace and stability," Zhang said.
Zhang said that both Chinese and Icelandic people were making contributions to the victory of the war respectively in their battle field 70 years ago. Since the end of the war 70 years before, China-Iceland relations have made a lot of achievements.
"Both peoples truly enjoy the benefits of a peaceful international environment and cherish the hard-won peace. Chinese people always cherish peace. China will firmly continue its peaceful development and will cooperate with Iceland and other peace-loving countries to endeavour for a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity," Zhang said.

Magnús Björnsson, Icelandic director of Northern Light Confucius Institute, said that China, during the World War II, was a main force of the World Anti-Fascist War and played an important role for the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. We must draw lessons from that war and cooperate to development peacefully, thus preventing the war tragedy from repeating.
G. Jökull Gíslason, guset lecturer of the University of Iceland, said that During the World War II, the whole China united as one to resist against invaders, totally defeated the Japanese militarism and achieved the victory, thus pushing forward the final victory of the World Anti-fascist War.
Many local guests joined the seminar and said that it made them know more about the history of China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the suffering of Chinese people during the war and China’s great contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.
