Zhou Wenbin, former president of Nanchang University, stood trial Monday on bribery and embezzlement charges in Nanchang People's Intermediate Court in East China's Jiangxi province.

Zhou is accused of accepting bribes and embezzling public funds, the Nanchang People's Procuratorate said.

The trial was split into two parts because of the complexity of the charges against him. He stood trial in December on charges that he accepted bribes of more than 20 million yuan ($3.15 million) and embezzled public funds valued at 58 million yuan. The first half of the trial lasted 24 days.

Zhou denied all the charges and claimed he was framed. "It's the biggest miscarriage of justice in the history of Jiangxi province," he said.

The court's verdict will be released at a later date.
