Beijing City University, Beijing Technology and Business University and Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture will relocate 6,600 people to the city's suburbs by the end of this year, Beijing Times reported on Wednesday.

The move is part of Beijing's effort to move non-capital functions and relieve pressure to promote the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration.

More than 5,000 people at Beijing City University started their new lives in outlying Shunyi district when its new campuses opened in September.

The university's former campus was in Zhongguancun, a nationally renowned high-tech hub near Beijing's North Fourth Ring Road. Traffic jams often developed during rush hours, causing pressure to surrounding areas. Limited space also restricted the university's development.

Three vocational schools in Shunyi were merged into the university this year, providing new campuses for the relocated students and teachers.

Also in this year, 530 students from Beijing Technology and Business University will move to Fangshan district and 1,100 from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture will move to Daxing district.

Apart from transferring universities to suburbs, Beijing is cooperating with Hebei and Tianjin in education to share resources and cultivate talent. Several agreements have been signed among universities in the region.

In the first three quarters of this year, the capital also relocated 12,000 booths covering 440,000 square meters in 90 wholesale markets to Hebei province, accounting for 60 percent of the year's plan.
