When members of the same Chengdu delegation visited Kaskelotten, a kindergarten in Horsens, Denmark, in late Jan, they observed toddlers learning how to pronounce letters in the Danish language by singing along with their teachers.

Danish kindergartens stress teaching through lively activities, said Anni Jacobsen, the kindergarten manager.

This Danish concept of preschool education will be introduced to Chengdu, which forged sister city ties with Horsens in 2013, with the Chengdu Horsens Kindergarten and Chengdu Horsens Primary School expected to open next September.

In November, designers from four architect firms in Horsens completed the design for the Chengdu Horsens Kindergarten, which is planned to cover 5,500 square meters, and the 90,000-sq-m Chengdu Horsens Primary School.

According to Karin Elbek, a partner with RUM, one of the four Danish architect firms, differing from traditional Chinese kindergartens and schools with large activity spaces, many small activity spaces will be available in the Chengdu Horsens Kindergarten and the Chengdu Horsens Primary School.
