The Xianggudun dam floodway in Macheng city, Central China's Hubei province, was blasted with 1 ton of explosives to discharge water on July 1, 2016. The dam had been storing 4 million cubic meters of water after days of torrential rain, exceeding its warning line. The weather forecast predicts the torrential rain will last from July 2 to July 4. The rate of the dam's water discharge is falling far behind its rate of storage. [Photo from the official Weibo account of Hubei Daily]
