New toilet planning standard unveiled

A new standard for planning and designing Shanghai's toilets has been released and it stipulates that the ratio of men's and women's cubicles in restrooms should be 1:2.5, and that areas with large passenger flow should have unisex toilets. The standard also states that the ratio at airports, railway stations and shopping malls should not be less than 1:2 while the ratio in commercial districts, restaurants and hospitals should not be less than 1 to 1.5.

Unsafe products seized at customs

A shipment of imported food and clothing from well-known brands such as Victoria's Secret and Ralph Lauren has been intercepted by the Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau for breaching safety standards. Products from Victoria's Secret were found to contain excessive levels of formaldehyde. A brand representative said that its products will undergo strict tests before sale following this incident.

Autumn delicacy now on sale in markets

Hairy crabs are now being sold in small markets and stalls but large wholesale markets have yet to begin trading of the crustacean. The harvesting of hairy crabs from the famed Yangcheng Lake this year is set to be on Sept 23 while the local Chongming crab is expected to go on sale around the Mid-Autumn Festival, falling on Oct 4 this year. Industry players said that while the total output of crab from Yangcheng Lake will be reduced this year, customers can expect the quality to be better.

New ticketing system rolled out at Disney

Shanghai Disneyland has announced that its printed quick pass will be replaced with an electronic version. The theme park operator said that the move was aimed at reducing fraud during peak seasons like school holidays when ticket scalpers emerge. Based on the new system, staff will scan the QR code on the tickets before tagging them to the visitors' portraits and their electronic quick passes.
