Liu Zhongyi, a national criminal investigation expert who fights on the frontline of crime, recently won the title of national "Public Security Model", for his professional knowledge, outstanding ability, as well as his successful cracking of thousands of serious and complex crimes.

The second national "Public Security Model" news conference was held by the Ministry of Public Security in Beijing on Oct 9 to publish the meritorious deeds of five elected national "Public Security Models". Being the deputy director of Criminal Investigation Bureau at the Ministry of Public Security, Liu is among the five; besides, he was also awarded the honorary title of secondary Heroic Model in the entire national public security system.

Liu is mainly responsible for investigating serious and violent crimes in the country. Liu is out on the road for more than 200 days every year investigating crimes. He said: "As a crime investigator, one has to take responsibility, because a single criminal offense affects more than one or two families, it affects the stability of the entire society," according to China Police Network report.

Once a crime occurs, he always rushes to the scene. "No matter how hard and complex the case is, I will always take responsibility and never prevaricate," Liu said.

In his 32 years of career, he has risen from the head of a police station in Heilongjiang province into a police captain, and finally an outstanding crime investigator. Whether during the 26 years of basic-level work or 6 years of work in the Ministry of Public Security, he has demonstrated the excellent quality of an investigator, throughout every procedure including site investigation, evidence collection and commanding conduct.

Cracking crimes in a way that can withstand the test of courts and history is the work ethic of Liu. During the investigation of the series of armed robberies in Suzhou, Hunan and Chongqing, which created a great stir throughout the country, he often worked overtime and barely rested on weekends and holidays for around one and a half year, from January 2011 to August 14, 2012, the date that criminal Zhou Kehua was shot dead.

Liu Zhongyi said investigation and detection is a scientific and systematic work, it requires meticulous work and is full of pressure. He said: "However, bearing in mind that one has deep love for the motherland and strong support from the people behind, one will be motivated greatly in the investigation."
