Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President Xi Jinping on his re-election as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on Thursday in a phone call.
Putin also congratulated the success of the 19th CPC National Congress, which concluded on Tuesday with the election of a new Central Committee. Xi was re-elected as the general secretary on Wednesday at the First Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.
It's very important that the congress has adopted Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Putin said, adding that the decisions of the congress have fully reflected Chinese people's trust and support toward the CPC led by Xi.
Noting that Xi has great prestige among the CPC and the Chinese people, Putin said he sincerely hopes Xi will lead the world's largest political party to new achievements.
Xi expressed his gratitude to Putin. The just-concluded congress has made the overall principle and action guide for the future development of the Party and the country, Xi said.
The CPC is confident in leading the Chinese people toward the goal of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, which is the historic responsibility and mission of the CPC, Xi said.
