Writer and philosopher Christine Cayol, founder of Yishu 8, compared Geldhof’s rambling exploration through Beijing to the way some people read an adventure or romance novel.
"In such a mild rhythm and mode of motion, the source of a story will emerge naturally …Her photographic images contain no extraordinary elements, but everything is seemingly unusual. There is no cliché landscape image. Viewers will fling themselves into the frames and speculate what is going on here," Cayol said.
Born in 1988, Geldhof graduated from the Paris National College of Fine Arts and lives and creates art in Paris.
The Yishu 8 Prize originated in 2011. Every year, a panel composed of experts and collectors selects three young French artists to live and create in Beijing for three months, as well as hold personal exhibitions.
If you go: Yishu 8, Former Sino-French University, No. 20 (jia), Dong Huangchenggen Bei Jie, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Phone: +86 (10) 6581 9058. The exhibition is open until May 17.
