The recent hit Japanese film Sunflowers of Inferno is based on seven sunflower paintings created by Vincent van Gogh. Among Van Gogh's sunflower series, the most familiar one to most people is probably Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers. However, Van Gogh actually painted as many as 11 sunflower paintings, which are all closely associated with his good friend Paul Gauguin. Van Gogh loved painting sunflowers and once called them the "Flower of Energy".
