Curated by Cai Guoqiang, an exhibition titled "What About the Art? Contemporary Art from China" will be opened at the Al Riwaq, a member gallery of the Qatar Museums in Doha, in March.

A part of the Qatar China 2016 Year of Culture, the exhibition teams up 14 living artists, including Xu Bing and Xu Zhen, and one artists group, Sunyuan and Peng Yu. It takes a glimpse into Chinese contemporary artists' creativity in expression and concept developing. It discusses how they live and work against a backdrop of a seemingly flourishing art market.

The artworks vary from paintings, sculptures and installations, videos and performances.

The exhibition curator Cai, himself an internationally renowned concept artist based in New York, has spent three years working on the project. He and his team selected the participating artists and works after reviewing some 250 China-related art shows and speaking to more than 20 scholars and curators from around the world.

The exhibition will run from March 14 to July 16.
