If you follow China Daily's Weibo account, you may see photos of a new Zhongshuge Bookstore opening in "paradise on earth", Hangzhou, lately.
I went to the first Zhongshuge Bookstore in the Songjiang district of Shanghai. It's far from central Shanghai and crowded with visitors. Praised as the most beautiful bookstore in Shanghai, Zhongshuge in Songjiang sees thousands of visitors each day.
Walking into the bookstore is like entering a sea of books, above the ceiling overhead, beneath the floor under your feet, on the walls, and under the steps of the staircases. All Zhongshuge bookstores are designed by the same architect, and the goal, first of all, is to build bookstores appealing to the eye. Looks matter.
It's a little bit noisy with so many tourists coming and taking pictures. I particularly like the rooms for art books and for foreign literature.
