Twelve Beauties of Prince Yong [Photo/Artron.net] |
Different from the dignified and graceful empresses' court dresses, the clothing style showcased from Twelve Beauties of Prince Yong is quite casual and fashionable. The women in the paintings typically dress in daily outfits and the hairstyle and ornaments are not very formal.
Twelve Beauties of Prince Yong was painted when the later Emperor Yongzheng was still a prince. The beauties in the painting are sedate, pretty against luxurious interior decoration. The women in the painting all wear beizi, a popular clothing style in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The hairstyle and headwear depicted in the painting is also quite distinctive, which reflects the vogue during Ming and Qing dynasties.
