BEIJING -- Director Michael Bay has announced that Chinese pop star Han Geng will join the cast of "Transformers 4".
Bay wrote in a post on his Website, "He's one of Asia's top stars in the worlds of music, television and movies and has become one of the most influential entertainers in China... Welcome Han Geng to the cast of 'Transformers 4'."
Han Geng also expressed his excitement on his Twitter page.
Han Geng's character in the film is still unknown, but Sohu.com cited an unnamed producer of the film as saying that Han Geng will be seen by the global audience, and that "Transformers 4" will not follow "Iron Man 3", which invited Chinese actress Fan Bingbing to its cast, but only kept her in its China-only version.
"Transformers 4" is slated for release on June 27, 2014. Han Geng will join Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, and another Chinese star, Li Bingbing.
Han Geng was formerly known as the only Chinese member of the K-pop group Super Junior. He began perusing a solo career in 2009. He won the Worldwide Act award at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards.
He has starred in a number of TV dramas and films, including Zhao Wei's top-grossing film "So Young".
