100 million people

More than 30 million families, around 100 million people, have benefited from the country's subsidized housing projects, Zhang Xueqin, a senior official with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said on Thursday. As of the end of 2011, 26.5 million low-income families had benefited from the low-rental, economical and capped-price housing projects and 4.5 million families had received cash subsidies for their housing rent in the market, Zhang said.
