Billion yuan

Chinese people and companies donated 84.5 billion yuan ($13.3 billion) in 2011, a year-on-year drop of 18.7 billion yuan, according to the China Charity and Donation Information Center under the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Experts attributed the decline to a series of scandals involving the Red Cross Society of China last year.
