Quake hits at region's border
A magnitude-5.3 earthquake jolted the juncture of Tongliao city in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Fuxin city, Liaoning province, at 5:11 pm on Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. No casualties were reported.

Extravagant official removed
An official in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, who fell to his knees and begged for forgiveness after being surrounded by residents protesting his use of public funds for a five-star meal, was removed from his post on Monday, the local government said. Zhang Aihua, director of the management committee of Taizhou's Binjiang industrial park, was having dinner with a group of people when the residents stormed into the dining room on Friday evening. Witnesses said the food and drink was worth at least 10,000 yuan ($1,616).

Six named forgovt car misuse
Six people were named after they were found using government cars for private purposes in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, last month. The six - three government officials, a police officer, a judge and an urban management officer - have been required to pay the expenses for the use of the cars, said Mei Heqing, an official with the city's anti-graft body, on Monday.
Traffic accidentkills 1, injures 8
One student was killed and eight were injured after a school bus collided with a container trailer parked on the road near a port in Foshan, Guangdong province, on Monday morning. The accident occurred around 7:15 am. A total of 13 students were aboard the bus, a witness said. Nine injured students were rushed to a hospital and one died later, the witness said.
