Thief steals heart attack victim's bike

A man was prosecuted by Xicheng District People's Procuratorate in Beijing for stealing an electric bicycle while the owner lost consciousness due to a heart attack. He found a man lying unconscious on the roadside beside an electric bike while riding through the Beijing West Railway Station on the morning of Feb 17. The man stole the bike and sold it to a bicycle repair shop. The owner of the bike died from the heart attack. The defendant was arrested by police when he returned to the spot for his own bike.

Subway-jumper seriously injured

A man who jumped on the track and was hit by a subway train on Thursday afternoon is still in danger, Beijing News reported. He jumped on the track at Chaoyangmen station on the Beijing Subway Line 2 at 13:46 pm and the line was temporarily closed. The man, who has serious head injuries, was still in a coma on Thursday night. Reports said he is 30 and comes from Sichuan province.

Shanghai

Dogs nurse baby tigers at park

Eleven newly-born Siberian tigers and four white tigers in Shanghai Wild Animal Park have found an unusual wet nurse-three dogs, according to Jiefang Daily. All the cubs were born around the middle of May. The cubs, aged between 27 and 35 days old, are fed seven or eight times a day.

Zhejiang

Driver kills herself and husband

A driver in Fenghua, Zhejiang province, and her husband were killed as she reversed their SUV in a parking lot, chinanews.com reported. The woman was backing the vehicle in a parking space with walls on three sides on Tuesday evening. Witnesses said the husband was standing at the rear of the vehicle to direct his wife. The man was pressed between it and the wall. The woman looked out while the vehicle was reversing and her head was trapped between the wall and car door.

Guangdong

Travel agencies to get incentive

Travel agencies will be given 10 yuan ($1.61) a day for each foreign tourist staying overnight in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. The incentive, double the 5 yuan introduced in 2010, starts from Tuesday, New Express Daily reported. All travel agencies, including those registered outside the city, are eligible if they have organized foreign tourists to check into hotels in the city for at least one night. Previously, only travel agencies registered in Guangzhou were considered.

Scores of officials investigated

Thirteen prefecture-level officials and 151 county-level Party and government officials have been investigated by the Guangdong Provincial Party Commission for Discipline Inspection in the first five months of this year. Eight of the prefecture-level officials and 29 at county level have been transferred to judicial organs for further investigation and possible prosecution, according to Zeng Fanrui, secretary-general of the province's top anti-graft body at a news conference on Thursday.

Liaoning

Man arrested for telephone scam

A man was arrested on international fraud charges in Shenyang, Liaoning province, Shenyang Evening News reported. The man, surnamed Sun, hired a citizen of South Korea and claimed they were from Seoul's prosecutors' office. They asked the victims to provide their identification and bank account information. Police said Sun made nearly 100,000 calls in three months.

Anhui

Suspected child molester arrested

A man surnamed Wang, suspected in a series of child molestation cases, was arrested on Thursday, according to police in Huangshan, Anhui province. They said details of the case will be withheld from the public during the investigation to protect the privacy of the children.

Shandong

Phone dealer gets fake US dollars

A cellphone dealer in Qing-dao, Shandong province, said a foreign customer used counterfeit US dollars to buy an iPhone, and police are investigating the case, Peninsula Metropolis Daily reported. The dealer said the man came to his shop to buy an iPhone on Monday. He went with the foreigner to verify the eight $100 banknotes at a bank next door and was told they were real. They completed the deal, but when the dealer went to exchange the money next day he discovered it was fake.

Shaanxi

Mahjong costs director his job

An official in Hanyin county, Shaanxi province, was fired for playing mahjong during work hours. According to the county's discipline inspection department, Zhou Yuping, director of the food and drug administration, was reported by local media to have played mahjong with six subordinates during work hours on Monday. An investigation showed the report was true. Zhou was dismissed on Wednesday and other officials involved were also punished.

Xinjiang

Nine jailed for promoting hatred

Nine people in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region have received prison sentences for promoting ethnic hatred and discrimination on the Internet, and committing crimes under the influence of religious extremism. Ahetam Heli was sentenced to six years imprisonment by a court in Aksu prefecture, Legal Daily reported. In Kashgar prefecture, eight were given sentences ranging from two to five years.

Gansu

Students, teachers trapped by flood

A school in Tianshui, Gansu province, has been cut off after serious flooding. The boarding school's only access to the outside world, a bridge, was destroyed by the rushing water. The Maji district education and sports bureau said 120 students and teachers were trapped and the food stored in the school can last for two to three days. The government had considered building a temporary bridge, but for safety reasons it decided to send food to the school and wait until the rain stops.

Henan

Son accused of family killings

A prosecuting body in Henan province approved the arrest of a high school student and two men held for conspiring to kill the student's father and older sister, dahe.cn reported on Thursday. On May 12, Gao Tianfeng, 49, former head of a county court, and his 26-year-old daughter were killed at their home by two men hired by the son on the Internet. The son contracted the hit men because his father and sister "put him under too much study pressure."
