Protests leave at least 27 dead
At least 27 people have been killed in protests in Khartoum over fuel subsidy cuts, a medical source said on Thursday as another bout of the worst unrest seen in Sudan's relatively well-off central regions for years broke out in its biggest port. Police fired tear gas volleys to quell a small protest in Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast, according to witnesses.
Pakistan
Quake survivors face long wait
Tens of thousands of survivors of Pakistan's earthquake waited for help in soaring temperatures on Thursday, as the death toll rose past 380 and anger grew at the slow pace of government aid. More than 100,000 people made homeless by Tuesday's quake spent a second night in the open or under makeshift shelters as response teams struggled to reach the remote region in Balochistan province.
