Medical market crackdown

Intellectual property authorities and the food and drug administration in Dalian recently launched a quality assurance campaign in the medicine and medical equipment market. Enforcement officials investigated 980 types of medicines, health products and equipment, finding more than 20 items with legal problems including improper use of patent information and unclear legal status.

After the Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman's giant rubber duck ended its tour at the Summer Palace in Beijing last Sunday, it was cut into pieces by 20 park workers to protect the designer's intellectual property rights. Following a survey of the market of publications for children, culture and press authorities in Luzhou city seized 3,300 illegal publications including pirated reference books. During the campaign, 360 enforcement officials investigated in 206 local publishers and more than 80 printers. Two companies were fined 10,000 yuan each for copyright piracy. Three printers received warnings and another was shut down.
