Fuyao Glass expands in the US beyond Dayton
Fuyao Glass Industry Group was founded in 1987 by Cao Dewang. It is the largest auto-glass maker in China, where it has 20,000 employees and factories throughout the country.
In addition to the factory in Dayton, the company also bought a 1.2 million-square-foot production facility in Mount Zion, Illinois, which makes float glass from raw materials for the Dayton plant, where the glass is shaped and assembled into final products.
Last year, it bought a factory in Plymouth, Michigan, 20 miles from Detroit. It produces value-added finishing, such as adding buttons, clips, frames and trim pieces.
Fuyao has had two offices and warehouses in Alabama and South Carolina since the 1990s. Eight years ago, it opened a bigger facility in Michigan to offer direct support to customers in the Detroit area. That plant employs close to 400 people.
