Wintersweets are heavily scented plants native to China that bloom around the Chinese New Year. They have been inspiring Chinese poets since the 11th Century and were introduced to England in the 18th Century.

Now, wintersweets are being celebrated at the 15th biennial China Wintersweet and Plum Exhibition, with more than 10,000 plants adorning the space and more than 50 exhibitors. The plums, meanwhile, come in a variety of colors - not just the usual red - and the oldest plum is around 100 years old.

Held every two years, the exhibition comes this year to Xuchang, in Central China's Henan province, and includes a photo display on plums. Coinciding with the opening of the Yanling National Flower and Plant Expo Park, this year's event runs until Feb 28.
