After the central leadership issued regulations against using public funds to pay for lavish parties, there has been a drastic reduction in the number of year-end parties and lucky draws by government departments at the central as well as local levels, says an article on gmw.cn. Excerpts:

High-end restaurants and clubs have taken a big hit because the regulations on curbing extravagance and red tape, among other things, have drastically reduced the number of year-end dinner parties.

This is a welcome development because it will save public funds which otherwise would have been used to pay for the exquisite dishes and expensive wines consumed by senior government officials. Ordinary civil servants should especially welcome the development because many will not have to listen to the harangue of their superiors while sitting at the dinner table.

The reduction in the number of year-end dinner parties will help make officials' lifestyle thrifty. The development is not only a positive response to people's call against extravagance, but also a significant victory in the battle against corruption.
