There is never any justification for the killing of innocent people on any grounds and at any time.
That's why the ruthless, violent assaults that killed 29 and injured more than 130 in Kunming on Saturday evening can arouse in us nothing but the greatest indignation towards the terrorists who have committed such crime and those behind them, while our deepest condolences go to those who have suffered as a result of the attack.
The rampage took place in the railway station and passengers were caught unawares. Many of those who died did not even know what happened before they were hacked and stabbed to death by the murderers, who were armed with long knives.
The evidence collected on the scene is strong enough to show that the assault was orchestrated by Xinjiang separatist forces.
That this attack took place just before the annual gathering of the National People's Congress deputies and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing early this week suggests that the separatists intend to sabotage the stability of the country and voice their evil intention of separating the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from the motherland with the blood of innocent lives.
Yet, what they have done will only estrange them from the majority of Uygurs, who long for peaceful and prosperous lives, which can only be achieved with the unity of all people in this country.
What they have done only serves to expose how evil-minded the orchestrators of such terrorist attacks are. They have brainwashed some Uygurs with extremist ideology for the establishment of the so-called East Turkistan and then let them execute the attacks on innocent people.
Yet, they can only fool some people for some of the time and they will never be able to deceive the majority of Uygurs.
What they have done will only add to the importance the country attaches to the unity of all ethnic groups, and the governments at all levels will spare no efforts in making it even harder for terrorist and extremist forces to carry out their separatist activities.
There is no way the country and its people will compromise their principles in the fight against terrorism.
Terrorists will never get what they want by doing what they are doing, since what they want is against the interests of the Chinese people of all ethnicities.
