EMBA courses have long been blamed as a platform for businesspersons and officials to form alliances and trade with power. As officials are no longer signing up for the courses, business people would do better to concentrate on taking courses themselves to improve the performance of their companies. Those institutions that provide EMBA courses also need to raise the quality of their courses as they will now need to compete for students. Let's hope the EMBA courses can be purified.

Authorities overemphasize academic degrees and educational background when recruiting and promoting officials; on the other hand, financial supervision over officials has been so loose that they have been able to pay the tuition fees with public funds. It is these two factors together that have caused the craze of officials taking EMBA courses. No wonder they have stopped taking the courses now the supervision is stricter.

EMBA courses are considered elite education and their costs far exceed the legal salary level of officials. Insiders say that enterprises, government branches even the colleges providing EMBA courses paid officials' tuition fees, so that they could benefit from the officials in return. That's a combination of corruption in politics and education and must be rooted out.

The anti-graft storm has popped the false prosperity of many industries. Top restaurants, luxurious wine and cigarettes, mooncakes decorated with gold and silver... all these high-end consumption industries withered when officials no longer dared to consume them using public money. Now it is turn of EMBA education for officials. Corruption might create illusive prosperity, but the more prosperity the more sin. It is time to purge corruption from China's economy .

Some argue that officials need training and further education, too, but there are numerous Party schools or administrative colleges that teach administration, and they do not need to choose such elite education as EMBA, which is for successful entrepreneurs. It is already an open secret that many officials take EMBA courses only to acquaint themselves with entrepreneurs, which paves the way for corruption.
